APA – Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) – The President of the Transition left the capital Ouagadougou on Tuesday, the presidency has announced.
From July 27 to 29, 2023, Russia will host Africa in St. Petersburg, in the northeast of the country. Burkina Faso received its invitation in December 2022.
In total, about fifty heads of state and government from the continent are expected to participate in the second Russia-Africa Summit.
This year’s event, which will include an economic and humanitarian forum, will focus on “peace,” “security” and “development.”
The goal, according to Faso’s presidency, is to “establish a new, mutually beneficial partnership” between Russia and Africa.
“The participation of the head of state in this meeting is part of the strengthening of the desired and confirmed cooperation between our country and the Russian Federation to find solutions to the double security and humanitarian crisis that our country has been facing for more than seven years,” added the source.
Since September 2022, against the backdrop of a diplomatic row between Burkina Faso and France, Ouagadougou and Moscow have grown significantly closer.
In the face of skepticism from the international community, Burkina Faso’s Foreign Minister Olivia Rouamba assured them that “Russia is a reliable partner.”
Several Burkinabe officials, including Prime Minister Apollinaire de Tambéla and the president of the transitional parliament, Dr. Ousmane Bougouma, remained in Moscow.
