APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – The foreign ministers of Rwanda and Portugal met on Monday, vowing to enhance the ties and cooperation between the two countries.
During a meeting with his Portuguese counterpart João Cravinho, Rwandan minister of Foreign affairs and international cooperation, Dr Vincent Biruta said the two sides have been understanding and supporting each other on the issues of mutual interests and concerns
Portugal Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho is traveling to several countries in Africa, with an extensive agenda that begins in Nigeria to Rwanda, and ends in Ethiopia, the headquarters of the African Union.
In Rwanda, the program starts with a meeting with his Rwandan counterpart, Dr Vincent Biruta, during which will be reviewed the latest developments in bilateral cooperation, which has been growing in areas such as energy, investment and trade, as well as security and defense.
Also on the agenda, there are regional and international issues such as the Central African Republic, the Great Lakes and the situation in Cabo Delgado.
On Monday, Minister João Gomes Cravinho held meetings with other local authorities and visited projects supported by the European Union under the Global Gateway and with the participation of Portuguese companies.
Diplomatic relations between Portugal and Rwanda were set forth on the 12th of February of 1976.
Ambassador António Baptista Martins was the first Ambassador to present credentials as non-resident in Rwanda as Ambassador Resident in Kinshasa, on the 25th of January 1977.
