Rwanda’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), the main gauge of inflation increased by 2.4 percent year on year in April 2021 up from 2 percent in March 2021, the National Institute of Statistics said on Monday.
In April 2021, food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 1.2 percent on annual basis and increased by 0.5 percent monthly.
Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics increased by 12.2 percent annually and was stable on a monthly basis, the institute said.
Data show that transport increased by 4.7 percent on an annual basis and rose by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis.
Education increased by 10.8 percent on an annual basis and rose by 0.1 percent on a monthly basis.
It also indicated that local goods increased by 1 percent on an annual change and decreased by 0.2 percent on a monthly basis, while prices of imported products increased by 6.7 percent on an annual basis and 1.3 percent on a monthly basis.
The prices of fresh products increased by 2 percent on an annual basis and were stable on a monthly basis.
The prices of energy decreased by 6.3 percent annually and decreased by 1.8 percent on a monthly basis.
The prices of General Index excluding fresh products and energy increased by 3.3 percent annually and went up 0.4 percent monthly.
