Rwanda has 19 confirmed cases of Covid-19 coronavirus, the ministry of Health said Monday.
The two new coronavirus cases were identified from two Rwandan men aged 32 and 34 respectively who arrived from Dubai UAE on 19 and 20 March, the ministry said.
All patients remain under treatment in stable condition, isolated from other patients, it said adding that the tracing of all contacts has been conducted for further management.
Following the confirmation of new cases, Rwandan Health officials urged public for heightened vigilance by adopting enhanced prevention measures announced by the Office of the Prime Minister.
Among these measures it include the closure of all non-essential businesses and the ban of travel between cities and districts.
Any Rwandans or legal residents returning to the country will be subjected to a mandatory 14-day quarantine at designated locations, the ministry said.
Following the new confirmed cases, the Education ministry ordered that all public and private schools be closed for two weeks.
The novel coronavirus has caused many people to abandon their travel plans to Rwanda, canceling flights and hotel accommodations without rebooking.
Rwanda’s national carrier, RwandAir announced last week the cancellation of all arriving and departing commercial flights to and from Kigali for an initial period of 30 days.
