Rwandan Prime Minister Edouard Ngirente on Thursday launched the first ever Data Science Campus with the main mission to investigate the use of new data sources including administrative data and big data for public good.
By launching the new Data Science Campus, Rwandan officials emphasize to promote the use of new generation of tools and technologies dedicated to exploit the growth and availability of various new data sources, it said
Innovative methods, such as machine learning and natural language processing, are providing richer, more informed measurement and analyses on the economy, the global environment and wider society to help policy-makers, researchers and businesses, according to experts.
As a move to build data science capabilities, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda has been given a mandate to set Infrastructure and build partnerships with different stakeholders in collaboration with the Office of National Statistics (ONS) of UK , local universities and other government institutions deadling with data management.
It said that the new data science based at the headquarters of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda in Kigali is set to grow its reputation as a leader in data science, both in Rwanda and at continental level.
