Rwanda has appointed an ambassador to Morocco for the first time since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 2017, according to an official statement made available Tuesday to APA in Kigali.
“Sheikh Saleh Habimana, has been appointed as the first ever Rwanda’s ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco,” the official statement said.
The announcement follows the opening of new Moroccan embassy in Kigali, in February 2017
In October 2016, Rwanda and the Kingdom of Morocco signed 19 agreements to facilitate creation of opportunities for citizens of the two nations.
After the agreements, a growing number of Moroccan companies expressed their interest to invest in the energy sector, finance, transport and logistics, information and technology, construction and real estate, among other sectors.
The move comes after King Mohammed VI, of Morocco visited Rwanda in late October 2016 during which the two countries signed various significant agreements that included a General Cooperation Agreement.
The agreements also cover areas such as MOU on political consultation mechanism, air service agreement, accords on visa exemption, security cooperation and tourism.
Rwanda and Morocco also signed agreements related to launch the “Africa Mutual Growth” investment fund, reciprocal promotion and protection of investments, partnership for the development and the promotion of economic zones in Rwanda.
Major focus of this bilateral cooperation also covers the establishment of the African Institute of Technology (AIT), a bilateral council between the Rwanda Private Sector Federation (PSF) and the Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM), reports said.
