To address the issue of noise pollution, Rwanda is set to address the issue of noise pollution through establishment of 13 sensors across the capital city Kigali, local media reported Monday citing administrative authorities.
With regard to noise polluters of public concern, including popular dancing activities in public venues and construction activities at nighttime, all 13 sensors to be installed at different places in Kigali city will be used to monitor not only the level of noise but also the air pollution in the city.
Commenting on the move, Juliet Kabera, Director General, Rwanda Environment Management Authority stressed that Rwanda’s air quality monitoring system gives the information needed to address air pollution and provides information to citizens about the status of the air where they live and work.
“Air quality monitoring and air pollution control are among our priorities in protecting the environment,” she said.
It is expected that all data collected will be utilized to improve understanding of sources and distribution of environmental stressors across the City of Kigali.
According to Rwandan authorities, this equipment will also provide a resource for future application in areas such as health studies, planning advice, public engagement, and enforcement.
