The head of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Filippo Grandi is in Rwanda on a working visit touring the Transit Center for African migrants evacuated from Libya on Sunday.
The center is located at Gashora, a village located some 60km southeast of the capital Kigali.
It marks the first visit by a senior UN official to the transit camp as its occupants wait to benefit from resettlement to third countries.
Others are helped to return to countries where asylum had previously been granted, or to their home countries if it is safe to do so.
It said that some may also be given permission to remain in Rwanda or benefit from complementary pathways, provided through family reunification and work, medical and humanitarian visas.
In a related development, a fresh group of 122 refugees and asylum seekers from Libya is expected to arrive later on Sunday in Rwanda becoming the fifth batch evacuated to the country as part of commitment authorities in Kigali made to provide safe passage for Africans stranded in other countries.
According to official figures, 306 refugees and asylum seekers have been evacuated to Rwanda, with a third of them expected to be relocated by the end of this year.
Out of these, 121 have been resettled in third-party states, mainly in Europe.
Reports indicate that 98 were resettled in Sweden, and 23 in Canada.
The resettlement is part of an agreement between the Rwandan government, UNHCR and the African Union, which will benefit 500 migrants being detained in Libya.
