One of the international Rwandan road racing cyclist, Moses Mugisha has vanished during a recent competition in the United States amidst suspicion that he had absconded, sport sources in Kigali revealed Monday.
Since July last year, Mugisha had signed for South African cycling club Pro Touch in a deal that was to keep him at the club ‘for the balance of the 2021 season’.
The 24-year-old completed the move from SKOL Cycling Academy (SACA), a few days after returning from the Tokyo 2020 Games in Japan.
In a statement issued Monday, @Protouch Team confirms that Mugisha arrived in the United States on Wednesday 31
August as per booked flight plan.
“He did not make his way to arranged transfer to hotel but instead made arrangements to be collected at the airport,” the club said.
This is not the first time Rwanda athletes have disappeared from international games.
In 2018, a Rwandan beach volleyball player and a weightlifting coach vanished after the Commonwealth Games.
