The Secretary General of the Rwanda Football Federation, Henry Muhire has been suspended with immediate effect over “issues of accountability”, sports sources revealed.
The Rwanda football body said in a statement that Mr. Muhire has been suspended from his duties as Secretary General due to issues of accountability falling under the scope of his work.
The federation’s current legal commissioner, Delphine Uwanyiligira, will assume office on an interim basis as the federation continues to dig deep in Muhire’s case before deciding his fate, it added.
Over the past few years, the Rwanda Football Federation has faced several governance issues that have been of great concern to the Ministry of Sport.
In 2016, two people suspected of involvement in malpractices and fraudulently awarding of a tender for the construction of Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA) hotel were arrested and sentenced to prison term with heavy fine.
The hotel has been under construction since 2015 but the works were suspended halfway due to financial constraints in 2018.
The Hotel was part of the FIFA Goal Project development programme aimed at helping developing countries to establish infrastructure and facilities to boost the growth of the game.
