APA – Kigali (Rwanda) – Rwandan Handball right winger Fred Nshimyumuremyi mysteriously disappeared before his team’s return back home from the U19 IHF Men’s Handball World Championship in Croatia, Sports sources confirmed to APA Thursday in Kigali.
Nshimyumuremyi who was until recently playing for Police Handball club was together with other players when he disappeared from the hotel with suspicion he had fled with the intention not to return home.
Rwanda’s U19 men’s national team, Portugal, Croatia and Algeria in Group A of the 10th IHF Men’s Youth (U19) World Championship that took place in Croatia from August 2-13 finished in the 27th position out of 32 national teams participating.
This is not the first time Rwandan players have disappeared from international games.
In May 2018, eight members of “Inganzo Ngari”, a cultural dance troupe known for gracing major events and weddings in Rwanda have gone missing in the United States where they had been on tour.
Rwandan officials acknowledged the seriousness of the matter but urged calm until the actual details of the dancers whereabouts were established.
At several occasion, Rwandan officials have warned members of the Rwandan delegation at several sports and cultural events against abusing the terms of their visas by vanishing from the events.
In 2017, a member of the Rwandan para-Taekwondo team, Eliezer Tuyishime, went missing from the championship village in London, UK and did not return home after the competition.
