The film tells the story of two Rwandan soldiers separated from their military unit at the beginning of the Second Congo War (1998-2003) and their struggle to survive in a hostile jungle environment amidst intense armed conflict.
The festival, which ran from 17-23 March, showed some 200 African-themed contemporary films while featuring art galleries, music performances, film workshops and more, according to the organisers of the event.
This year, Cote d’Ivoire was the honorary guest country, in the context of its celebration of 50 years of cinema, reports said.
In September 2018, the film also had its international premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada.
Three months later in December, Karekezi’s film, The Mercy of the Jungle again won Best Screenplay and Best Supporting Actor accolades at the just concluded Khouribga African Film Festival that ran from December 15-22, in the Moroccan city of Khouribga.
The film has also took part in festivals like Namur Film Festival in Belgium, Milano Film Festival in Italy, Carthage Film Festival in Tunisia, and the Les Arcs Film Festival in Poland, it said.
