APA – Kigali (Rwanda) Ugandan goalkeeper Simon Tamale has officially signed a two-year contract with Rwanda’s football giants Rayon Sports, Sports sources confirmed Thursday.
Before joining Rayon Sports, Tamale has been playing for his home-based Maroons FC, also known as Prisons FC, a Ugandan professional football club from Kampala owned by Uganda Prisons Service.
“The goalkeeper will be a boost for the goalkeeping position in the coming period,” the Rwandan club said.
The lanky custodian who started off his career at Lungujja Galaxy as a teenager before moving to Police FC and then Maroons is purely in pursuit to build competition in that department and seek for quality playing time.
The transfer is subject to the completion of regulatory processes, it said.
Rayon have been crowned winner of the Peace Cup, the second biggest title in domestic football, this year, after edging out arch rival’s APR FC to win the 2023 Peace Cup title following a 1-0 win in the final game.
Rayon sports registered the 10th peace cup trophy in the club’s history as this time earned Rwf 10 millions (10,000 USD) worth of cash prize from Rwanda Football Federation and an automatic spot to represent Rwanda at next year’s CAF Confederation Cup.
