Rwandan President Paul Kagame is among leaders who attended a meeting that prepares for the African Union (AU)-European Union (EU) Summit slated February 2022, an official source disclosed Monday in Kigali.
The Rwandan leader joined the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, AU Chairperson, President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi, Chairperson of AU commission Moussa Faki Mahamat, and other officials.
The Summits of European Union and African Union Heads of States and Governments take place traditionally every three years and alternate between Africa and Europe.
These Summits take stock of the progress being made in implementing commitments and provide political guidance for further work.
Amid the continued challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, African and European countries agreed to enhance cooperation in their response to the pandemic.
During a Second AU-EU Ministerial Meeting which took place last October in Kigali, participants agreed to facilitate investments in key connectivity sectors such as transport, energy and digitalisation as improving the conditions for public and private investments and employment opportunities in Africa.
Both sides recalled the need for strengthened AU-EU cooperation on peace and security challenges at all levels and during all phases of the conflict cycle and addressing new threats and their root causes.
