Rwandan President Paul Kagame on Wednesday met with Kenyan leader Uhuru Kenyatta and Malian President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta who are in Kigali to attend the 5th Transform Africa Summit.
Speaking at the official opening of the summit, President Kagame stressed that for Africa to achieve digital transformation, it all starts with Africans, realizing the depth and breadth of their responsibility in realizing the digital agenda which supports the broader continental transformation agenda.
“We are innovators and thinkers (…) We have our own products to sell. We have our own stories to tell,” he told the continent’s leaders.
The fifth edition of Transform Africa Summit, the largest ICT forum in Africa, officially opened in Kigali on Wednesday, attracting some 4,000 delegates including policymakers, innovators, investors, and tech giants to discuss how ICT can be leveraged to boost the continent’s economy.
On the sidelines of the summit, the famous humanoid robot Sophia rocking Rwandan traditional outfit known as “umushanana” joked and greeted a full auditorium in Arabic, French, Kinyarwanda and Kiswahili.
“I am excited to be here in Kigali at the summit, together with Ministers, and different leaders gathered under one roof to discuss the future of Technology in Africa,” the humanoid robot said amid applause.
Speaking at the occasion, President Kagame stressed that policymakers have to bear in mind that they have to put in place a framework to facilitate investments that are not too expensive to avoid transferring the cost to consumers.
“Everything we need for transformation is in this room or represented in this room,” he said.
