The Medical Business Company(MBC), one of the private clinics located in Nyamirambo, a suburb of Kigali city which was suspended early this month over lapses affecting patient safety, has been allowed to resume provision of healthcare services, the Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Saturday.
The initial closure followed an inspection of private hospitals in Kigali city which will expand to other provinces. The inspection intended to assess service delivery and compliance with rules and regulations in the health sector.
The private hospital was then ordered to suspend the provision of all healthcare services after authorities found “significant regulatory lapses”.
Multiple life-saving or patient use equipment and medications were not maintained or not available in critical areas of the hospital, such as the intensive care unit and operating theatre
, according to the ministry.
Subsequent inspections conducted by health officials showed that the private clinic has met the licensing requirements under the Private Hospitals and Medical Clinics Act.
So far, the Ministry of Health has conducted inspections in 47 hospitals where several sanctions apply when applicable.
Earlier last month, Rwanda closed down Baho International Hospital, another private clinic based in Kigali following the death of a patient that triggered an investigation.
The health facility has been subject to recurrent complaints from the public since mid this year, with many people taking to social media to protest against its alleged poor service delivery, hygiene, and at least one case of misdiagnosis.
