Rwanda’s producer price index (PPI), which measures the average change over time in prices received by domestic producers for the production of their goods and services, increased 12.82 percent year on year in August, the National institute of Statistics (NISR) revealed Thursday.
This trend is mainly due to an increase of 90.59 percent in price water supply activities’ and an increase of 4.05 percent in manufacturing, offset by a decrease of 20.03 percent in the prices of mining and quarrying, the NISR said.
On a month-on-month basis, the PPI dropped 1.87 percent last month compared to the same period of last year, according to the statistics body.
This was due to a decrease in mining of other non-ferrous metal ores by 9.82 percent, and an increase in manufacture of tea, and manufacture of other chemical products, and manufacture of coffee by 10.46, 9.50 and 2.21 percent respectively, according to the same source.
Among major industries in terms of order of important include mining and quarrying, mining of metal ores, manufacture of food products, Manufacture of textiles, and printing and reproduction of recorded media, the institute said.
