The Rwanda Meteorological Agency on Wednesday renewed its alert over heavy rains ranging between 30 and 150 mm which is expected across the country from December 21 to December 31, 2022.
A higher amount of rainfall is expected to range between 120 and 150 mm in major parts of southwestern Rwanda and the southern areas of Nyaruguru Districts.
The remaining parts of Western Province, South and North are expected to record rainfall ranging between 90 and 120 mm.
The rainfall ranging between 30 and 60 mm is the lowest amount of rainfall expected over most parts of Eastern Rwanda and across some parts in the south.
Slightly strong to moderate wind speed ranging between four and eight metres per second is expected across the country, the weather watchdog said.
“The impacts related to accumulated rainfall conditions are expected in some parts of Western and Southern Provinces, therefore, mitigation and preventive measures should be put in place,” the agency said.
Due to global warming, trend analysis for the period since 1971 showed a temperature increase of 1.4°C has been recorded in Rwanda.
