APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) will carry out voter registration for the 2024 elections during the coming weekend.
The IEC said in a notice that the voter registration would take place at 22,300 registration centre that would be established across the country on November 18 and 19.
“This monumental effort not only registers new voters but also facilitates the verification of the roll. Voting station-based registration ensures equitable access to the vote,” the IEC said on Monday.
According to South Africa’s electoral law, any citizens aged at least 16 years can register but one needs to be older than 18 years to actually vote.
South Africa is due to hold national and provincial elections between May and August 2024. Exact dates are expected to be announced by President Cyril Ramaphosa early next year.
These would be the sixth democratic elections that South Africa would hold since attaining independence in 1994.
