APA-Cape Town (South Africa) South Africa’s Acting Public Protector Kholeka Gcaleka’s name will soon be submitted to the National Assembly for approval to become the substantive Ombudsman on a permanent basis, Parliament’s Ad Hoc Committee has announced.
The committee, established to select the next Public Protector, interviewed eight shortlisted candidates last week to occupy the post whose former office holder, Busisiwe Mkhwebane, was suspended after she was found to be “incompetent and unfit” for office.
Parties represented in the National Assembly would debate the issue in the House before having an opportunity to vote on it, according to the committee on Tuesday.
President Cyril Ramaphosa would have the final approval on the appointment, it said.
