APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) Residents of South Africa’s Gauteng province experienced an earthquake measuring 4.4 on the Richter scale on Sunday.
According to the South African Seismograph Network (SANSN), the tremor occurred early Sunday morning.
While the impact of the earthquake was felt across the province, it was most prominently experienced in the East Rand within the city of Johannesburg, the SANSN said.
The Council for Geoscience confirmed that the epicentre of the earthquake was located a few kilometers outside the East Rand Proprietary Mine in Ekurhuleni municipality, specifically in the Boksburg area.
