APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South Africans are grappling with a shortage of poultry products as an outbreak of avian flu takes a toll on the country, according to reports monitored here on Friday.
The reports said supermarkets across the country have started rationing eggs they sell to each customer to ensure there is enough for everyone.
Some supermarkets are said to have limited the number of eggs that customers can buy to six, while others have set a limit of a dozen per customer.
The Ministry of Agriculture last week announced that an avian flu outbreak had hit five of the country’s nine provinces, which had forced farmers to kill over 2.5 million chickens at the time to contain the further spread of the disease.
