APA-Pretoria (South Africa) South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has said that his government was “irrevocably committed to continuing the process of advancing and improving” the lives of women and girls in the country.
The president said this when he addressed a gathering to commemorate Women’s Day in Pretoria on Wednesday under the theme, “Accelerating Socio-Economic Opportunities for Women’s Empowerment.”
Ramaphosa called on other key role players in the country who controlled resources, and could open up opportunities for women, to do so.
In this regard, he said that business was well-placed to play a key role in this process of helping to improve the lives of the women of South Africa.
The president outlined a number of areas that government and the private sector could work together to advance and improve the lives of women.
The importance of increasing the representation of women in all structures of society was the starting point, he said.
“Women must be well represented in key positions in government, in management, and in the judiciary, the president said.
He added: “We must mobilise all of society to support the women of our country on their road to empowerment and the improvement of their lives.”
