APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South African fugitives Thabo Bester and his girlfriend Nandipha Magudumana returned to the country on Wednesday night, landing at Johannesburg’s Lanseria Airport in a specially chartered flight.
Convicted rapist and murderer Bester has been taken to the maximum-security Kgosi Mampuru II Prison in Pretoria, according to press reports.
Magudumana is expected to appear before the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court on Thursday to face charges for various offences surrounding the saga.
The two fugitives’ arrival home ends a manhunt that started in March which culminated in their arrest in the Tanzanian city of Arusha last Friday.
Bester escaped from the Mangaung Correctional Centre in the Free State province following his conviction last May.
The police and correctional services ministers are expected to give an update Thursday on the saga that has gripped the imagination of South Africans like a soap opera.
