APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) An unnamed South African and Briton were killed in Uganda on Tuesday evening in an attack suspected to have been carried out by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), according to reports monitored here on Wednesday.
Ugandan police spokesperson Fred Enanga said a Ugandan tour guide was killed along with the two tourists.
“We have registered a cowardly terrorist attack on two foreign tourists and a Ugandan national in Queen Elizabeth National Park,” Enanga said.
He said the vehicle in which the trio was travelling was burnt during the attack.
He said Ugandan police pursued the suspected ADF rebels deep into their bases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The national park’s western boundary is the shore of Lake Edward, which separates Uganda from the DRC.
Rebels from ADF have previously carried out attacks in the area from their DRC bases, reports said.
The group was established in the early 1990s by Ugandan Muslims who said they had been sidelined by Museveni’s policies.
It is accused of killing thousands of villagers in frequent raids into Uganda over the past decade.
