APA-Pretoria (South Africa) South Africa’s Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga was robbed of her valuables while travelling to Pretoria between the towns of Valorous and Heidelberg on the N3 highway two days ago, her office has announced.
Police are investigating the incident to identify the culprits, the office said on Tuesday.
The robbery took place in the early hours of Monday morning when Chikunga was enroute to her office in Pretoria as the vehicle she was in stepped on spikes and punctured its tyres, the ministry said.
“The tyres of the minister’s car were punctured by spikes — bringing the car to a stop and enabling the criminals to rob the occupants of valuables,” the office said.
It added: “Both the minister and her dedicated South African Police Service protection team emerged from this incident unharmed and safe.”
According to her office, Chikunga remained committed to fulfilling her state responsibilities and was deeply grateful for the overwhelming support she received from her fellow government colleagues — and the people of South Africa.
