APA-Johannesburg (South Africa) South African motorists and other consumers will have to tighten their belts following the hiking of fuel prices for petrol, diesel, lighting paraffin and cooking gas starting on Wednesday, Mineral Resources and Energy Minister Gwede Mantashe has announced.
Mantashe said the adjustment of fuel prices were set for all grades of fuel, lighting paraffin and cooking gas for October.
“The ministry believes that exploration and development of national oil and gas reserves could help moderate the impact of high fuel prices in the long term,” Mantashe said.
In the new prices, petrol 93 has increased by 0.056 US cents and petrol 95 went up by 0.06 cents a litre, he said.
As for diesel 0.05% sulphur, it has increased by 0.10 cents per litre and diesel 0.005% sulphur has gone up by 0.102 cents a litre, he added.
According to the minister, lighting paraffin has gone up by 0.079 cents per litre, while the single maximum national retail price for the paraffin it rose by 0.11 cents per litre.
Maximum retail price for cooking gas has risen by 0.131 cents per kg, Mantashe said.
