South Africa’s newly appointed Deputy President Paul Mashatile, seven ministers and nine deputy ministers took oath of office on Tuesday, a day after a cabinet reshuffle by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Ramaphosa on Monday appointed Mashatile as the country’s ninth deputy president following last month’s resignation of David Mabuza who had served in that position since 2018.
Mashatile became deputy president of the governing African National Congress at the party’s national elective conference in December 2022.
He was sworn-in by Chief Justice Raymond Zondo during a ceremony at Cape Town’s Tuynhuys House.
Ministers who were sworn-in were Lydia Chikunga (Transport), Kgosientsho Ramokgopa (Electricity), Zizi Kodwa (Sports), Thembi Nkadimeng (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs), Maropene Ramokgopa (Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation), Noxolo Kiviet (Public Service), and Sihle Zikalala (Public Works and Infrastructure).
The deputy ministers sworn-in were Zolile Burns-Ncamashe and Parks Tau (Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs), Lisa Mangcu (Transport), Nomasonto Motaung and Kenneth Morolong (Presidency), Dipuo Peters (Small Business Development), Bernice Swarts (Public Works and Infrastructure), Sisisi Tolashe (Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities), and Judith Tshabalala (Water and Sanitation).
