A South African court on Wednesday ruled that Misuzulu kaZwelithini should be crowned Zulu king despite resistance from some members of the royal family.
Pietermaritzburg High Court judge Isaac Madondo ordered that the coronation of King Misuzulu should proceed while the will left by the late King Goodwill Zwelithini is being investigated.
Prince Mbonisi Zulu had sought a court order stopping the coronation of his nephew pending finalisation of court cases in which some members of the royal family are challenging the contents of the late monarch’s will.
According to the judge, there was no reason to delay the coronation since Prince Mbonisi Zulu’s court application did not even dispute Misuzulu kaZwelithini’s nomination as the next king of the Zulu nation.
King Zwelithini died last year following a suspected COVID-19 infection.
