With South Africa administering 606 coronavirus vaccine doses on Sunday, the country had now registered at least 36,861,626 shots on citizens’ arms to subdue the two-year-old pandemic, the health ministry said on Monday.
This meant that by late Sunday afternoon, some 50.61% of the adult population had been fully vaccinated in South Africa, the ministry added.
The highest number of vaccines administered on Sunday were in the North West province with 196 jabs, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 178 shots and Gauteng at 82 doses.
Meanwhile, the ministry said the country recorded 226 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the number of confirmed cases to 3,995,291.
There was one fatality during the same period, bringing the number to 101,812 deaths since the pandemic broke out in March 2020 in the country.
The country has since dropped the mandatory use of masks outdoors, cautioning citizens to continue observing the other protocol measures like keeping distance and washing hands to prevent the pandemic.
