South African consumers have to dig deep in their pockets to dish out an additional seven cents for a litre of fuel, it was announced on Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy, both grades of 95 (ULP and LRP) and 93 (ULP and LRP) have increased by seven cents starting on Wednesday.
This meant that a litre of 95 ULP in Gauteng Province, which currently costs US$1.24 a litre, has increased to $1.31, the ministry said.
Meanwhile, diesel (0.05 percent sulphur) has increased by four cents a litre, while the price of diesel (0.005 percent sulphur) has increased by three cents a litre, the office said
The price of illuminating paraffin (wholesale) has increased by two cents, it added.
The price of illuminating paraffin has risen by seven cents, while the Maximum Retail Price for LPGAS rose by 22 cents a kg.
In a statement, the ministry said the average international product prices for petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased during the period under review.
“The local rand currency has depreciated against the US dollar during the period under review, on average, when compared to the previous period,” it said.
