A total of 35,744,528 Covid-19 vaccine jabs have been administered in South Africa since the vaccination programme started in February 2021, the health ministry said.
According to the ministry, some 45.33% of adults in the country have now been fully vaccinated.
It revealed that the latest vaccination tally comes in the wake of Sunday’s inoculation of 2,804 people.
The highest number of vaccines on Sunday was from KwaZulu-Natal province where 860 people received their Covid-19 shots, followed by Gauteng at 768 jabs and North West (676).
There were some 3,220 new Covid-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 3,929,872 since the disease broke out in the country in March 2020, the ministry said.
Two reported deaths during this period brought the total to 100,933 fatalities, while the cumulative number of recoveries now stood at 3,768,951 – which was a recovery rate of 95.9% from March 2020.
