Some 205,681 South Africans received Covid-19 vaccines on Tuesday as the country continued to make steady progress in its march towards attaining herd immunity, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday.
Tuesday’s tally took the cumulative number of doses administered since the vaccination programme started in February to 19,461,202, the ministry said.
The country now has 10,218,549 adults who are now fully vaccinated, it added.
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD), there were 592 new Covid-19 cases recorded on Tuesday.
The majority of new cases were recorded in KwaZulu-Natal province, which had 128 infections, followed by the Western Cape (102), Gauteng (99) and the Free State (71), the NICD said.
Some 83 Covid-19 deaths were reported on Tuesday, bringing the fatalities to 88,429 to date, while there were 58 hospital admissions, the agency said.
