Over 56,000 Covid-19 vaccines were administered on Tuesday in South Africa, comprising 14,409 Johnson & Johnson shots and 42,360 Pfizer jabs, a health institute has said.
According to the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) report on Wednesday, the 56,769 Covid-19 vaccines administered in the period included 20,063 first doses, consisting of 5,674 Johnson & Johnson injections and 14,389 Pfizer vaccines.
The institute said there were a total of 8,735 Johnson & Johnson booster doses and 13,441 Pfizer booster jabs administered as well during the period.
Individuals who were fully vaccinated on Tuesday totalled 20,204, the agency said.
Meanwhile, some 5,096 new Covid-19 cases were confirmed on Tuesday, bringing the total number to 3,899,841 cases in South Africa since March 2020.
