South Africa’s women’s football team, Banyana Banyana, have qualified for the Women’s FIFA World Cup finals to be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand next year.
Banyana advanced to the finals after beating Tunisia 1-0 on Thursday, a development which also saw the team qualify for the semi-finals in Morocco where the Women’s African Cup of Nations qualifications are being played and used as World Cup qualifiers as well.
The South Africans joined Morocco, Nigeria and Zambia for the four-team trip to the World Cup.
Banyana will meet Zambia in the semi-final before Nigeria tackle hosts Morocco in Rabat on Monday – interesting pairings for World Cup-bound teams.
