President Cyril Ramaphosa arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday for a state visit during which he is expected to discuss bilateral, continental and international issues with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto.
Ramaphosa’s spokesperson Vincent Magwenya said the two leaders are expected to review the status of bilateral relations, including the implementation of previous agreements.
South Africa looked up to Kenya as a strategic partner as both countries shared common values and principles which guided their domestic as well as foreign policies, Magwenya said.
“Kenya is South Africa’s largest trading partner outside of the Southern African Development Community region, making South Africa the biggest seller of goods to Kenya on the continent,” Magwenya said.
He said the state visit included a business forum consisting of the private sectors of South Africa and Kenya focusing on trade and investment between the two states.
According to the World Bank, Kenya is east Africa’s largest economy and gateway to the region with a gross domestic product of over US$110 billion.
