South Africa’s confirmed Covid-19 cases have reached 3,986,892, with the latest 291 infections recorded on Monday, the Health Ministry announced on Tuesday.
The majority of the new cases came from Gauteng province (40%), followed by the Western Cape (15%), KwaZulu-Natal had 13% and North West registering 11%, the ministry said.
In addition, the Free State province accounted for 8% of the cases, Eastern Cape (5%), Mpumalanga (4%), Northern Cape (2%); and Limpopo (1%), it added.
There was an increase of 31 hospital admissions on Monday, the ministry said.
According to the ministry, health workers reported 16 deaths in the past 24 hours from these admissions – bringing the total to 101,620 fatalities since the pandemic broke out in the country in March 2020.
