South Africa registered 536 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number to 3,979,126 since the first patient was recorded in the country in March 2020, the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) has said.
The total number of deaths related to the virus increased by 25, with four of these fatalities occurring between Saturday and Monday, the institute said.
Total number of deaths stood at 101,509, with 32 hospitalisations reported between Sunday and Monday, it added.
According to the NICD, provinces of Gauteng, Western Cape and KwaZulu-Natal continued to dominate in terms of the new cases of the virus, with the three provinces accounting for nearly three quarters of infections.
The provincial breakdown of the new cases was 206 for Gauteng, Western Cape (115), KwaZulu-Natal (79) and North West (33).
Other cases were Mpumalanga with 31, Eastern Cape’s 28, Free State’s 25, Limpopo’s nine, and the Northern Cape’s nine cases.
Meanwhile, some 31,651 Covid-19 vaccines were administered on Monday as the number of jabs reached 36,484,428 in the same period.
