South Africans should brace themselves for a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic due to their low vaccination rate for the disease, virologist Barry Schoub warned on Monday.
Out of the country’s 60.6 million population, some 19.3 million people have been vaccinated, the virologist said.
“There certainly will be another wave, probably the end of next month – maybe even in October. It is for this reason that people who are not vaccinated … should go and get vaccinated,” Schoub said.
Urging South Africans to get their jabs to be safe, he warned that “Covid is not over.”
The UN World Health Organisation warned that many countries have become complacent in the face of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, saying it was time for a reality check.
