Football fans will be able to watch their favourite teams play live when stadiums are opened to the public next week, local football administrators announced on Tuesday.
According to Premier Soccer League (PSL) chairperson Irvin Khoza, fans would be allowed to return to stadiums for the first time in two years during the weekend of April 8-10 when the Nedbank Cup quarterfinals take place.
To be allowed enter the stadiums, fans would be required to present their identity cards and proof of vaccination or COVID-19 negative tests that should have been taken less than 72 hours before the matches, he said.
The first Nedbank Cup quarterfinal is scheduled for April 8 and would feature Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and SuperSport United.
The decision to allow fans to attend matches comes in the wake of last week’s announcement by President Cyril Ramaphosa that the government was relaxing the remaining COVID-19 restrictions.
Outside public events are now allowed to have up to 50 percent of the holding capacity of the venue.
