The South African Football Association says it will appeal to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football against the alleged bias by the Senegalese match officials who handled Bafana Bafana’s 2022 World Cup qualifier against Ghana on Sunday night.
According to media reports monitored here on Monday, SAFA chief executive officer Tebogo Motlanthe said the local football association would want FIFA and CAF to investigate the conduct of Senegalese referee Maguette Ndiaye and his colleagues Samba Elhadji Malick, Camara Djibril and Gueye Daouda.
Motlanthe told reporters that SAFA believed that the Group H tie, which was played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium in Ghana, may have been “fixed” in favour of the host.
“We suspect the game was fixed and our position is that it must be investigated. The conduct of the match officials left much to be desired and we want both CAF and FIFA to investigate,” Motlanthe said.
Ghana won the match 1-0 to book a place in the final qualifying round for next year’s FIFA World Cup set for Qatar.
