South African Football Association president Danny Jordaan has congratulated Banyana Banyana for being crowned 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions after beating Morocco 2-1 in Rabat on Saturday.
This is the sixth attempt by South Africa’s women’s football team to win the tournament – the last time being in 2018.
“Congratulations Banyana and coach Desire Ellis, the captain and many of the players who really shone in this tournament,” Jordaan said on Sunday.
He added: “You are the supreme champions and team on the continent. So we are tremendously happy and proud.”
Jordaan said each player would receive US$27,000 as incentive on their return from Morocco.
He said the team deserved this extra recognition after its excellent performance in the tournament.
