South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele is attending a week-long UN high-level political forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) where participants are exchanging views on how their nations are tackling issues of the 2030 Agenda, the presidency said on Friday.
It said South Africa’s participation at the meeting aims “to advance where we are in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals.”
It added: “And to learn from other developing countries that will be presenting their voluntary national reviews in dealing with the developmental agenda.”
According to the presidency, the UN-led SDGs were drawn up to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all nations worldwide.
“The SDGs are currently addressing the global challenges of development, including poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace, and justice,” it said.
The overall objective of the high-level forum is to provide political leadership, guidance, and recommendations on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
The forum, which started on Wednesday and ends on July 18, is themed “Building Back Better from the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-While Advancing the Full Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
