South Africa’s International Relations and Cooperation Minister Naledi Pandor is attending a two-day 41st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) which started in the Zambian capital Lusaka on Thursday.
The executive council is made up of foreign affairs ministers from AU member states entrusted in drafting the agenda for the 4th AU Mid-Year Coordination Meeting to be held on Sunday in Lusaka.
Among other things, the ministers are expected to discuss and consider the AU’s budget for 2023, the Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation said.
Apart from the financial plan, the meeting is also expected to consider the reports of the Joint Ministerial Committee on Scale of Assessment and Contributions, Committee of Fifteen Ministers of Finance, and the Ministerial Committee on African Candidatures within the international system, the ministry said.
The report of the Ministerial Follow-up Committee on the Implementation of Agenda 2063 report would also be examined in detail during the gathering, according to the ministry.
In addition, the ministers would also consider the adoption of the draft agenda of the coordination meeting between the bureau of the AU assembly of heads of state and government and the chairpersons of the regional economic communities.
