The meeting, held on the anniversary of the Liptako-Gourma Charter, was chaired by Mali’s Foreign Minister Abdoulaye Diop.
The ministers reaffirmed their commitment to regional socioeconomic integration and the implementation of decisions made at the July Niamey summit. This summit saw the transformation of the AES into a Confederation, with a roadmap to strengthen defense, diplomacy, and development cooperation.
Key areas of discussion included the creation of a federation between the three countries, diplomatic coordination, and regional security. The ministers condemned foreign states’ support for terrorist groups, particularly Ukraine’s involvement in the July Tinzawatene attack.
A framework for diplomatic cooperation was established to address regional challenges more effectively. The ministers also met with Assimi Goita, Mali’s transitional president, to discuss the ESA roadmap and strengthen diplomatic coordination.
