A weekend stampede at a stadium in Guinea have left at least 56 people dead and many others still accounted for, APA can report from Conakry on Monday.
The incident happened during a game of football between Nzérékoré and Labe on Sunday when fans from the visiting team invaded the pitch clearly angry over a controversial decision by the match official.
Prime Minister Mamadou Oury Bah addressing Guineans on Sunday evening said the incident is being investigated as the government intervenes to help the victims.
Meanwhile a video is purporting to show crowds scaling the stadium fence while other figures lay lifeless on the ground including children.
Hospitals in the Guinea’s second city appear to be full of corpses and the injured seeking treatment with security tight in and around its main medical facility.
Prime Minister Bah said those in need of medical attention will be treated at the expense of the state.
