The Ministry of Health and Social Action on Monday lifted the precautions previously recommended for the vaccination of this vulnerable group.
The virulence of the Delta variant has weighed in this decision. In an information note, Dr. El Hadj Mamadou Ndiaye, Director of Prevention, said that “vaccination against Covid-19 is now indicated in pregnant women.”
The Dalal Jaam Hospital in Guédiawaye, in the suburbs of Dakar, received many pregnant women who have contracted the virus, its Director, Moussa Same Daff, recently informed. This health structure has already recorded the death of a woman and a baby during caesarean sections.
In addition to pregnant women, the Director of Prevention recalled that “people recovered from Covid-19 and breastfeeding women were and still are part of the target to be vaccinated.”
For all these people, the Ministry of Health and Social Action plans to administer “the vaccines in accordance with the schedule recommended in the programme’s operational guide for each antigen.”
