The Ministry of the Interior and Public Security reported that 24 towns and cities were severely affected, with Touba bearing the brunt of the disaster.
Over 4,500 houses were inundated across the country, and numerous roads were blocked or impassable. In Touba, a religious city in the Diourbel region, heavy rainfall of 140.1 mm led to building collapses and tragically claimed three lives.
The National Fire Brigade (BNSP) deployed a rapid response strategy to mitigate the crisis, activating 115 pumping sites nationwide. While many of these sites have successfully reduced water levels, 41 remain operational to address ongoing flooding.
Priority areas for the ministry include stabilizing the worst-affected regions, such as Dakar, Guédiawaye, Rufisque, and Touba, and ensuring the safety of schools ahead of the new academic year. The fire brigade continues to work tirelessly to restore normalcy and provide relief to affected communities.
The ministry urged citizens to remain vigilant and support one another during this emergency.
