Following the resignation of El Malick Ndiaye, elected head of the national assembly on Monday, December 2, Senegalese president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, carried out a slight reshuffle of the government led by Ousmane Sonko on the same evening.
Only one new entry was recorded.
This is that of Abass Fall, appointed Minister of Labor, Employment and Relations with Institutions, replacing Yanhokha Diémé. The latter is now in charge of the Department of Infrastructure, Land and Air Transport, previously headed by El Malick Ndiaye.
Pastef’s top candidate in Dakar during the early legislative elections of November 17, Abass Fall won the seven seats up for grabs and beat off a tough opponent in the person of the mayor of the capital, Barthélémy
Dias.
Since the mandate of deputy is incompatible with the function of minister in Senegal, Mr. Fall will not sit in parliament.
The reshuffle leaves in office the main leaders of the strategic ministries, in particular Yassine Fall in African Integration and Foreign Affairs, General Birame Diop in the Armed Forces and Ousmane Diagne in Justice.
In addition, Daouda Ngom retains his portfolio as Minister of the Environment and Ecological Transition, while Amadou Moustapha Njekk Sarré remains government spokesperson in addition to his functions as Minister of Vocational Training.
This reshuffle demonstrates the Senegalese head of state’s desire to preserve the continuity of government action.
Due to the reshuffle, the government is holding an unusual meeting on Tuesday, December 3.
The meeting of the Council of Ministers usually takes place on Wednesday.
