APA-Dakar (Senegal) – The swooping operation took place 150 km south of Dakar, according to the Military Information and Public Relations Directorate (DIRPA).
The Senegalese navy has once again distinguished itself in the fight against drug traffickers.
On the night of November 26, one of its offshore patrol boats boarded a ship carrying 3 tons of cocaine.
In a statement on Tuesday, DIRPA did not specify the origin or destination of the illicit cargo.
The operation is the largest seizure of cocaine in Senegal in the last five years.
Senegal, and West Africa in general, has become a preferred transit zone for Latin American cartels trying to reach Europe with their illicit cargoes.
In 2019, Senegalese customs seized more than a ton of cocaine at the port of Dakar.
Coming from South America, the drugs were destined for Europe and had to pass through the Senegalese capital.
Apart from Senegal, the press frequently reports the seizure of large quantities of different types of drugs in West African ports.
